The latest generation of Wi-Fi technology supports today's and future demanding applications
Austin, Texas, USA, June 19, 2013 -Wi-Fi® technology has once again achieved significant performance improvements. Today, Wi-Fi Alliance® launched the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ™ ac certification program. Relying on the high-performance foundation of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED n, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac products can provide full home network coverage at twice or even twice the speed of older Wi-Fi products, and can easily handle features such as Ultra HD and 4k High-demand applications such as video, multimedia, and fast file transfer.
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac products have higher capacity, better performance, and higher-order robustness to support various networking applications in today's and future homes, public places, and corporate networks. The certification program is based on the technology defined in the IEEE 802.11 ac standard and takes the performance of Wi-Fi functions to a new level:
(1) Higher data transmission rate-Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac-based networks can provide data transmission rates that are more than double the typical Wi-Fi CERTIFIED n network data transmission rates. For the majority of users, this means that the network can simultaneously support the transmission of HD quality video streams to multiple devices.
(2) Greater transmission capacity-users can connect more devices to the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac network at the same time without reducing performance.
(3) Reduce the delay-Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac products can provide higher quality game or music playback program experience, in
Even the slightest delay in these procedures can have adverse effects.
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac works in the 5 GHz frequency band. In this band, devices can use the increased bandwidth to achieve higher data transmission rates. Most Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac products are also expected to use dual frequency to work in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, and support Wi-Fi CERTIFIED n in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. The popularity of dual-band products has been on the rise in recent years, and is expected to continue to increase with the introduction of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac. Dual-band networks can double capacity because devices can use the less crowded 5 GHz band to run high-performance applications, while the 2.4 GHz band is used to meet basic needs.
Edgar Figueroa, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Wi-Fi Alliance, said, "Consumer demand for a rich connected experience is endless. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac enhances Wi by increasing capacity and improving performance -Fi's ability to meet this consumer demand paves the way for new products and services that provide a good user experience. "
Wi-Fi is constantly evolving to meet user data needs and usage requirements and improve content access efficiency without sacrificing core competencies such as interoperability and security. According to market research agency ABI Research, by the end of 2014, dual-band Wi-Fi chipsets, including Wi-Fi CERTIFIED n and Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac, will exceed 1.5 billion units.
Phil Solis, an analyst at ABI Research, said, "Technological advancements in the Wi-Fi industry are mainly driven by various applications in mobile applications and connected home environments. The latest generation of Wi-Fi technology, Wi -Fi CERTIFIED ac maintains the interoperability that has been the foundation of the technology's success, and will enable product manufacturers to continue to explore new ways to connect wirelessly. "
In the second half of this year, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac certified mobile devices, tablet computers, notebook computers, consumer electronics and network equipment will be available for sale. Enterprise environments and industrial applications will follow the pace of consumer products to adopt the certification program, and will also benefit from the higher performance of data-intensive applications.
The first Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac products that make up the test suite for this certification program include
(1) Broadcom BCM4706 5G WiFi wireless communication processor
(2) Broadcom BCM4360 5G WiFi wireless single chip MAC / PHY / Radio
